Being a physician assistant requires a high level of academic preparation just like other health care careers. It doesn’t even matter if it is based in a classroom, in a laboratory, or if its done in both. They have to go through a lengthy program that trains them how to function and work as a physician assistant on a daily basis. Most PA programs entail the aspiring student doing academic coursework, laboratory work, and hands on clinical rotations.

These programs that PAs have to go through usually last for 2 years or at the most 3 years, and they have to be in the program on a full time basis. The requirements for becoming a PA are graduating from a educational program that has been accredited by the American Association of Physician Assistants (AAPA), they have to have passed the national certification exam, they must pass their state licensure exam, they to continue their medical education while they are already a PA, and every six years they have to take a re-certification exam.

Training to become a physician assistant can be done at four year colleges, universities, medical schools, allied health schools, hospitals, and even clinics.
